Local media may be interested in covering the Infusion. We hope they are!
Here are some tips to help.
Send a clear pitch. A short email — three or four paragraphs maximum — explaining what the event is, when it is, who is organizing it, and why it matters to locals. Attach a high-resolution photo or two. Link to your website.
Offer interviews. Pick one or two spokespeople from your team and make them available. Reporters will appreciate having a person they can call. Be available during business hours; reporters work on tight deadlines.
Provide quotes in writing if needed. Some local outlets, especially community newspapers and online news sites, will accept ready-to-use quotes from organizers. This is fine and often appreciated.
Tell them the human story. "We are running a tourism weekend" is not interesting. "Hundreds of Americans came to a small Canadian town last year as an act of solidarity, and we are doing it for our community now" is interesting. "A nurse from Boston who came on the weekend now lives here full-time" is even more interesting. Lead with the people, not the logistics.
Include the practical details. The dates. The time of the family photo. The website URL. The Discord. Reporters need these. Save them a search.
The right outlets to pitch will vary by community, but the list usually includes:
Pitch them all at once. Pitch them six to eight weeks before the weekend. Send a follow-up two weeks before. Send them a final reminder the week of.
