Life expectancy is rising: Canada’s life expectancy at birth increased from 81.3 years in 2022 to 81.7 years in 2023.
Most Canadians are connected: In 2024, approximately 83 % of Canadian adults (age 18+) reported having a regular health-care provider such as a family doctor, nurse practitioner or another health professional.

Major progress in dental care access: By March 2025, over 3.4 million Canadians had been approved under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), and about 1.7 million had received care, improving access to oral health for previously underserved groups.
Positive surgery recovery: In the 2023-24 period, more than 2.3 million surgeries were performed — an increase above pre-pandemic levels, particularly a 14 % rise for older adults aged 65+ compared to the pre-2020 baseline.
Digital and data-tools scale-up: The system is increasingly adopting data and digital tools — for example, “Taking the Pulse” by Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) highlights enhanced tracking of shared-priorities including primary care access, mental health and electronic health information.
High health-status despite resource-pressure: While Canada may lag on some resource-measures (beds, equipment) it nonetheless maintains excellent population outcomes.
