You need moderators. The Discord cannot run on the energy of the core team alone, especially as the event gets close.
Moderators do four things:
Welcome new members. A friendly hello within the first day they join.

Answer questions they personally know the answer to, and tag the right person for the ones they do not. Offering some basic tips to get comfortable in Discord can go a long way.
Keep the tone warm. Most Discord conflicts can be defused by a moderator stepping in early and gently.
Enforce the rules when needed. Spam, harassment, off-topic political fights — moderators handle these.
The best moderators are locals who already know the community well, are active online, and have the temperament for it. Look in your existing community groups. Ask around.
You want at least three moderators.
Compensate them. Even a small token matters. A thank-you dinner after the event, a name in the credits of your announcement video, whatever. Moderators are doing real volunteer work, often for hours a week in the run-up to the event, and recognition is the minimum you owe them.
