- Overall crime down: The national police-reported crime rate fell by 4 percent in 2024.
- Crime severity improving: The Crime Severity Index dropped by just over 4 percent in 2024.
- Homicides declining: Canada recorded fewer homicides in 2023, with the national rate falling from 2.27 to 1.94 per 100,000 people.
- Youth crime way down long term: Youth crime has dropped by about 63 percent since the late 1990s.
- Provincial improvements: Provinces such as Alberta and British Columbia recorded significant year-over-year declines in crime severity in 2024.
- Robbery still historically low: Even with a small recent increase, robbery rates are still roughly half of what they were a quarter-century ago.
- Non-violent crime falling: Break-ins, mischief and other non-violent offences helped drive the national CSI downward in 2024.
- Youth charges down sharply: The rate at which youth are charged with offences has fallen by about 75 percent over the long term.
